He entered Kaiten too soon.
She was in his divination range and she was on a loose dryrotted branch.
It was only right for the branch she was on to be the exact one to snap in half and propel towards Neji's rapid spinning motion, right?
Exiting Kaiten, Neji had just enough sense of direction to capture her in his arms and attempt re-leveling the fluid in his semi-lunar vesicle.
"You alright?" A furrowed brow and tight grasp wordlessly communicated his concern.
"Yes. Nearly falling to definite pain is much better than actually falling." Half sarcasm, half truth was all she could supply at the moment.
"Falling is... not so bad. As long as someone is there to help you up." Neji said with a distant look in his eyes. Probably thinking of Hizashi.
"That was so corny Neji. 'As long as someone is there to help you up'? Who taught you that cheese, Gai-sensei?" came out in a playful tone.
"You're right." Neji said as if coming to a resolution. "This is corny."
He promptly dropped her and life returned to normalcy. That is until Tenten reached up to scrtach her head and found a mess of loose tresses.
No one ever found the ribbons in Neji's pocket.
Yay gravity. It allows cliche situations to happen.
